Male Ministry

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him. "Good teacher," he asked, "what must I do to inherit eternal life?" "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good - except God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.' "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said. "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God: all things are possible with God," Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" "I tell you the truth,' Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields - and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life."
Mark 10:17-31 NIV

As the Male Ministry takes on the challenge of facing our mountain, the voice of Peter can be heard clearly today. We choose to climb with the promise Jesus made to Peter. The goal of Male Ministry is to heal from within - seasoned brothers and the new school generation - coming together by faith. Coming together means we will help each other, and trust God to meet us where we are. New material for study sessions will emerge in our fellowship worship services and our monthly meetings will serve to keep us on target in reaching our goals each month. During the Church year we will engage in a variety of activities that are fun and keep us active.

Our theme for 2006, This Truth guarantees a Breakthrough: Giving Means Growth encourages us to focus not only on Peter, but to examine the young man Jesus spoke to in verse 17. This young man was afraid to give all his wealth to the poor. To give his all, without a guarantee of return was surely bad business. Hearing this broke the heart of Jesus, but Jesus had compassion on him. After the young man heard the words of the Lord he left with his head hung down. Upon hearing the parable, Peter then cries out. Peter spoke to those with him and speaks for some of us today. We are all challenged to give until it hurts, leaving everything to follow Jesus.

Giving means growth. When we are giving, we are returning to God the blessings God has given to us. Giving means we agree to open our hands from a closed fist to let something occupy that space. In order to work effectively in our church, in our community, and on our jobs, our faith in our God must grow so that we can give all we have. This starts with the person. When the raw materials (Bible Study, Sunday school, workshops, etc.) are multiplied with our energy, and we remain focused on our goals, hopes and dreams, this equals a breakthrough and a coming together of the vision.

Along with growth comes trust that we will develop among ourselves. Our mind will be on one accord with the full vision of our Pastor for our church and community. We will be seriously sensitive to our place and our being in the Universal Church of Jesus Christ. We can enjoy the blessing of being men. Healing will take place as we stand up. We are to give the Lord love for our community. We will also be giving love to each other as we walk in the promise Jesus made to Peter. That response is at work in us today when we give our time, talent, resources, and skills, focusing on the Lord God Almighty, the one who will make all this possible.
