Till We Meet Again
This past June, I graduated from Forest Hills High School and in
the fall I will be attending Hampton University. Without the love,
leadership, care, activities and programs of Antioch Baptist Church
of Corona I wouldn't be in the position I am in now. The Antioch
Family has been one of the greatest influences in my life. They
had faith in me and my abilities - key word faith. They had faith
that God would lead me and steer me in the correct direction and
that is the main thing that I have learned from my church family.
My church family never gave up on me and trust me there are times
they could have. It says in the Bible that faith without works is
dead so instead of just having faith, my church family always made
sure there was always something for young people to do. During the
summer they gave me employment which is an experience I will never
forget. Minister Sinclair was the toughest boss I ever had and taught
me the meaning of responsibility and taking pride in what I do which
has helped me in school and at my current job. Groups like Y.A.W
(Youth At Work), G.E.M (God's Ebony Males), and the Tillers Liturgical
Dance Ministry have kept me busy on Saturdays and other days of
the week when I could have been on the streets getting involved
in activities that continuously put our young black brothers in
negative predicaments. With Y.A.W, we fed the homeless in Manhattan
during the Thanksgiving season which really hit home how blessed
I was to have a roof over my head and it gave me a chance to help
someone get through a rough, cold night. If you could have seen
the expressions on some of the peoples' faces it would have made
you cry. They were extremely thankful for the food we gave them.
We also went to Washington D.C to a Youth Convocation where we fellowshipped
with churches from across the country. There was a step show, oratorical
competition, showcases, rap sessions, and dynamic preachers. With
G.E.M, we learned how to cook simple meals like lasagna and spaghetti;
we also went bowling and had our annual 2 on 2 basketball tournament
that I never won for 8 straight years but its ok I will get over
it someday. We also had serious discussions about issues that effect
young black men. With the Tillers, I learned that there are so many
ways to praise and worship our Lord and Savior. And as a member
of the Tillers, I was able to let God use me to bring more people
to Christ. I have been to conferences here in New York, New Jersey,
Pennsylvania, and Texas where we learned how to take our ministry
to the next level. Being a member of the Male Dance Ministry we
had the distinct honor to minister in dance at Perfecting Faith
where Donnie McClurklin is the Pastor, the historic Allen A.M.E.,
and a host of other churches.
I cannot even go into what my Pastor, has done for me. There are
people who have never even met their Pastor or have a Pastor that
knows them by their first name. He has made me not just a better
person, but a better man and I am grateful for that. While I've
been to so many churches and listened to so many sermons, my Pastor
is the best! His Sermons promote thinking no matter how old you
are. Sermons like: I Want To Be Like Christ, The Dash and If You
Spot It You Got It stayed in my heart. Because of the Debt Liquidation
Ministry, no one at college will tempt me to get a credit card.
My Pastor is just plain old cool! He can relate to high- ranking
officials and to the young brother on the streets. I've lost so
many food bets with my Pastor; he is a winner on all levels.
If I went through every experience I had through Antioch it would takes
pages upon pages. This church has been so good to me and I know
they still will be when I come back from college. And everything
they have done for me I will pass on to the next generation. I LOVE
YOU ALL AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!
